Adlabs has unveiled the look of Indian Cinema's biggest villain, played by Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay.’
Amitabh Bachchan presents the character of legendary villain Gabbar Singh and the film is said to be one of the biggest remakes of Hindi cinema. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, the film is backed by Adlabs Films Limited.
At the grand event organised to unveil the look, Mr. Bachchan walked in a black coat wearing dark pink shades. He said, “These dark shades are not the look of Gabbar. Whenever I start shooting with Ramu, I get an eye infection and which is why these dark shades.”
“Adlabs has a long standing association with Ramu. This is one of our forthcoming films. Only Ramu could have thought of casting the super hero in a super villain role. I would have thought the look would have been suited the booted villain of today, but only Ramu could have thought of this look,” said Manmohan Shetty of Adlabs.
Ram Gopal Varma's interpretation of Gabbar Singh makes his ‘Sholay’ intriguing. The 1975 Gabbar was an unkempt, unshaven baddie with tobacco-stained teeth. So let’s hope that Amitabh's garb and character is just as threatening.
“Thirty years ago when the original ‘Sholay’ was being shot Gabbar Singh was the villain, but today I think he is seen as a hero and who else but the superstar of our times to play this character. Lots of effort has been put in to give Bachchan this look,” said Ramgopal Verma.
Everyone is obviously inquisitive to know more about the modern day ‘Gabbar Singh look.’ Well the picture has him in a rugged, worn-out, intimidating and unyielding look. The scar on his nose, black boots and muffler around his neck make his look even more mysterious. Unlike Gabbar's deadly leather belt, Big B will be seen carrying a stick embedded with a scorpion on it.
Amitabh seemed truly honoured and said that Gabbar Singh had been a hot favourite ever since ‘Sholay’ was released. He says this role has fulfilled his long standing desire to essay the dream role of Gabbar Singh.
“Amjad Khan and I struck a good friendship during ‘Sholay.’ In fact, I wanted to play the role of Gabbar Singh and I told this to Ramesh Sippy (producer-director of the original ‘Sholay’). He told me “no you will have another role in the film.”
“Nice that today at 64 I am getting to play Gabbar, we have started the shooting and at the end of the day, I feel exhausted because playing Gabbar is not easy. I am overwhelmed and embarrassed that Adlabs and Ramu decided to unveil this new look in such a grand fashion,” said Amitabh Bachchan.
